PEC Zwolle UK: Meet The Members - Rob Danson

The First member of the group to be introduced is co-founder of the Group, Rob Danson from Kirkham, England. Rob has attended Three of the Four trips the group have made to The Netherlands.

Why do you love PEC Zwolle?
"It's a long story going back to the summer of 2017, but basically ever since that weekend we adopted PEC as our second team. Then ever since our first trip to Zwolle I've considered myself to be a Blauwvinger"

What do you think about the City of Zwolle?
"Amazing! The City captures the culture of everything we associate with Holland and we completely fell in love with it on our first visit in January 2018. Rob comments that PEC Zwolle UK member Tony Yates wants to move to Zwolle and "we'll be holidaying there all the time" if that becomes a reality.

First Memory of Dutch Football?
"We best not mention Euro 96 had we..." (England 4-1 Holland)
Rob then reminisces about "Dennis Bergkamp scoring an absolute goalazo against Argentina at France 98" in the World Cup Quarter Final.

Favourite Dutch Player of all-time?
"I have so many to choose from and i absolutely adore Dutch football, but I would have to say Clarence Seedorf. He was such an underrated player back in the day, but could do a bit of everything and was technically brilliant. He is still the only player to win the Champions League with Three dieferent clubs, I think" (Yes, this is true - with Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan).

Favourite PEC Zwolle Match?
"Sepp Van den Berg's full debut game against Feyernoord. We'd recently sold Phillipe Sandler and i couldn't believe a Sixteen year-old Academy product was taking his place at Centre Back. Unfortunately Diederik Boer has a game to forget in the nets, but it was a game that had everything. It encapsulated everything I love about Dutch football and PEC Zwolle" - Rob loved the game albeit the 3-4 scoreline.

Favourite all-time PEC Zwolle Player?
"The Moroccan Messi, Youness Mokhtar... I Bloody loved that lad. His 2017/18 season was something special, shame he left when he did"

Thoughts on how PEC will do next season and who they should bring in?
"I'm a bit concerned about the effects of the Coronavirus and what it will mean for PEC financially. I know they have historically struggled for money in the past. It is a big relief to hear how many season tickets are being sold, so hopefully that should stabilise the situation somewhat. I would definitely take staying up in the Eredivisie and building a team for the future. As long as the right brand of football is produced I'm happy"

Favourite Moments on your Zwolle Trips so far?
Rob jokes about Tony Yates' (Jager) drinking exploits, doing shots out of a "dentist chair" scenario and when the lads ended up at a house party in Zwolle with 'Miggy Mouse'. Rob mentions the episode where fellow member Scott was being sold a stolen bicycle in Amsterdam and being re-united with a gentleman we call 'Eyebrows' on our Third trip (after meeting him in on our first expedition over). On the football front he mentions his first ever game at the MAC3Park when PEC Zwolle beat NAC Breda "1-0 in January on a Saturday night" in January 2018.

Who do you support in England and why?
"Newcastle United. It all started with my hero worship for Alan Shearer, then Sir Bobby Robson. It took off from there and has grown ever since. There's never a dull moment".
